This alone can add stress to an already stressful situation. Our infertility doctor is here to support you and help you anyway he can.
Your initial infertility workup
The primary workup for infertility may include the following:
• Laboratory testing (for both partners)
• Hysterosalpingogram (a specialized test to ensure that the fallopian tubes are patent)
• Ultrasound(s) timed with the menstrual cycle to evaluate the ovulation process and
quality of ovulation
• If medications are needed to help with the ovulation process, then you may expect to be seen at specific times during your cycle.
6 Tips for Coping with Infertility
Recognize that you are not alone - Infertility affects about 7.3 million people in the United States; seek a counseling group or therapist to help you through this hard time.
Do not blame yourself or your partner - Negativity towards yourself in this situation will only make it worse; remember - infertility is not your fault. Help each other through this time.
Get educated - There is a world of knowledge at your fingertips; learn as much as you can about infertility and the ever-changing technology surrounding it. You may just find a solution!
Set a limit on how long you will try - This will help you feel more in control of the situation; you may think you don't want to give up until you succeed but that will not always happen. Decide what you will and will not try and your end goal. Be optimistic but know when to be realistic as well.
Avoid baby-related events and activities - Events such as baby showers or meeting your new baby nephew may be tough; know that you may skip these types of things in order not to hurt yourself. Send a gift card or present bought online directly to the new baby so you do not find yourself in a baby store feeling upset.
Find other interests - Treatment for infertility can feel like it is taking over your whole life; make sure you make time for some of your interests or hobbies to keep yourself from dwelling on the situation.
